Bookkeeping · Fractional Controller · Fractional CFO

Clean books. Clear decisions.

Every month, your books closed and reconciled, your statements ready, and a finance partner who can tell you what the numbers mean — at the level your business actually needs.

Who this is for

Owner-operated businesses, roughly $1M–$25M in revenue, that have outgrown a shoebox-and-spreadsheet approach — professional services, trades and construction, e-commerce, SaaS, and multi-location retail. You don't need a full in-house finance department; you need the parts of one that move your business forward.

Three levels of support

The right amount of finance, for the stage you're at

Start where the pain is. Add depth as the business grows. Most clients begin with one level and expand.

01 Bookkeeping

Accurate books, every month

Clean, current books are the foundation everything else stands on. We categorize transactions properly, reconcile every account, and close the month on a fixed calendar — so the numbers you're looking at are the numbers that are true.

  • Monthly bookkeeping and full account reconciliation
  • Accounts payable and accounts receivable support
  • Payroll and sales tax coordination
  • Month-end close and review-ready statements
  • 1099 and year-end package for your CPA
  • Clean-up and catch-up engagements for backlogged books

Best for: businesses that need trustworthy books but don't yet need controller-level oversight.

02 Fractional Controller

A close you can stand behind

A controller builds the systems and controls that make your numbers reliable: a disciplined close, accrual-based reporting, and processes that don't depend on any single person's memory. We run that function part-time, without the full-time salary.

  • Managed month-end close — business days, not weeks
  • Accrual-basis financial statements and budget-vs-actuals
  • Chart of accounts design and process cleanup
  • Internal controls and approval workflows
  • Accounting software selection and implementation
  • CPA and audit coordination at tax time

Best for: companies whose questions have outgrown the bookkeeping — margins, job costing, inventory, or lenders asking for real statements.

03 Fractional CFO

Finance that drives decisions

A CFO's job isn't recording the past — it's shaping the future. We build the forecast, the cash runway, and the capital plan, then sit beside you as a thought partner when the decisions are consequential.

  • 13-week cash-flow forecasting and runway management
  • Annual operating budget and rolling reforecasts
  • Scenario and sensitivity modeling for big decisions
  • Pricing, margin, and customer profitability analysis
  • Banking, lending, and investor reporting packages
  • Board meetings and monthly leadership reviews

Best for: owner-operated companies making six- and seven-figure bets — a facility, an acquisition, a new market, a credit line.

How we work

From first call to steady state

1

Discovery call

A 30-minute conversation about your business, your current books, and what's keeping you up at night. We'll tell you honestly which level of support fits — including if it's not us.

2

Onboarding

Access, cleanup, and setup. We review your accounting system, clear any backlog, set the close calendar, and agree on a fixed monthly scope and fee — no hourly surprises.

3

Steady state

Books close on a rhythm you can set your watch to. You get statements on schedule, a monthly review call, and a standing line to your finance partner when decisions come up.

The engagement model

Why businesses go fractional

A full-time controller or CFO is a six-figure, full-time commitment. For most companies in our range, that's paying for capacity they don't use — or hiring a title they can't yet afford. Fractional engagement buys the same expertise in the quantity the business actually needs.

Comparison is illustrative; actual costs vary by market and seniority.
Full-time hire Fractional engagement
Cost Salary, benefits, payroll taxes, and overhead — full cost regardless of workload Fixed monthly fee scoped to what your business actually needs
Commitment A hire to recruit, manage, and replace if it doesn't work out Monthly engagements scoped to what you need; flexes as you grow
Coverage One person, one perspective, one point of failure Bookkeeping, controller, and CFO depth as the engagement requires
Ramp Weeks or months to recruit and ramp No recruiting cycle — work starts with your next close

FAQ

Questions we hear most

Do you replace my CPA?

No — we work alongside them. We keep your books clean and close-ready, prepare organized year-end packages, and coordinate directly with your CPA so tax season is a handoff, not a fire drill. We don't prepare tax returns or perform audits, so there's no conflict with your existing tax relationship.

What does "fractional" actually mean?

You get senior finance expertise for a defined slice of the month instead of a full-time salary. A fractional controller might run your close in 10–15 hours a month; a fractional CFO might spend a few days on your forecast and your monthly review. You buy the outcome and the expertise, not the seat.

Which accounting platforms do you support?

We work in QuickBooks Online and Xero most often, and are comfortable across other cloud accounting platforms — plus the payroll, AP, and expense tools around them. If you're on spreadsheets or unsure what you have, the discovery call will sort it out quickly.

How is pricing structured?

A fixed monthly fee quoted after the discovery call, based on your transaction volume, entity count, and the level of service you need. One number, agreed in advance. Clean-up and catch-up work is quoted as a separate fixed project before it starts.

My books are a mess. Is that a problem?

It's our most common starting point. We scope a cleanup project with a fixed price and timeline, get the books to a clean baseline, and then keep them that way. You'll know the full cost before any cleanup work begins.

How do you keep my financial data secure?

Access to your systems is limited to the people on your engagement, and credentials are shared through secure practices rather than passwords over email. We're happy to walk through our approach in detail before you share anything.
